WWE held a tournament on Raw to crown a new champion after the company vacated the title the night after Money in the Bank. Rey Mysterio won the tournament final by defeating The Miz. Later that same night, John Cena got a title match and beat Mysterio, so Rey’s reign lasted less than one day. At the same time, WWE also recognized CM Punk as champion after he returned the same night, which created two “WWE Champions” until SummerSlam.
