Austin Theory (Austin Tyler White) is an American professional wrestler from McDonough, Georgia. He trained under A.R. Fox and debuted in 2016. Before WWE, he worked across the World Wrestling Network (WWN) system, most notably EVOLVE and Full Impact Pro (FIP).
He won the EVOLVE Championship, the WWN Championship, and the FIP World Heavyweight Championship, which made him an up-and-coming prospect on the U.S. indie scene.
WWE signed him in 2019, and after a short run in NXT, he moved to Raw in early 2020 as part of Zelina Vega’s group with Andrade and Angel Garza. He then shifted into becoming one of Seth Rollins’ “Monday Night Messiah” disciples. He returned to NXT later that year and joined The Way, the Johnny Gargano led stable that also featured Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell. The Way gave Theory a clearer character, a cocky upstart with a talent for getting under opponents’ skin.
Theory rejoined the main roster in 2021 and began a selfie-driven persona. He won his first United States Championship on April 18th, 2022, defeating Finn Bálor. He then dropped the title to Bobby Lashley at Money in the Bank on July 2nd, 2022, but entered the main event ladder match that same night and won to hold the briefcase again.
With a new briefcase secured, he made headlines when he attempted to cash it in on Seth Rollins for the United States Championship. However, Bobby Lashley interfered, and he failed to regain the title. Weeks later, he regained momentum and became a two-time U.S. Champion at Survivor Series: WarGames by defeating Seth Rollins and Bobby Lashley in a triple-threat match.
His most prominent career milestone came at WrestleMania 39 in April 2023, where he opened Night 1 and defeated John Cena to retain the U.S. title. Although later that summer, he lost the championship to Rey Mysterio on SmackDown.
In late 2023, he formed a tag team with Grayson Waller called A-Town Down Under. The pair leaned into loud, needling promos and cheap shot tactics. They broke through at WrestleMania 40 in April 2024 by winning the WWE Tag Team Championship during a six-team ladder match, where both the Raw and SmackDown tag team belts were up for grabs.
Through spring, they mixed main roster appearances with brief stops in NXT for cross-brand angles and title challenges.
Theory’s biggest health scare came on January 12th, 2024, in a SmackDown match with Carmelo Hayes. A top rope exchange ended with both men landing poorly. WWE announced they had both suffered facial contusions. Theory was able to return to action, but in July 2025, Grayson Waller stated on Raw that Theory was injured, which ended A Town Down Under.
Reports soon began to come out that WWE had moved Theory off the internal active roster. No official release or timetable for a return followed, and his status has remained unclear since August 2025.
Theory wrestles an athletic, power hybrid style. He uses crisp dropkicks, a rolling blockbuster, and slingshot offense. His primary finisher is A Town Down, a fireman’s carry facebreaker that drops the opponent onto his knee. He has also used Ataxia, which is a flipping facebuster variation, as a signature. His presentation emphasizes vanity and provocation, which fits his work as an antagonistic character.
As of October 2025, he remains a contracted WWE performer by all credible indications, yet inactive due to injury and off the internal active list. If cleared, he returns with top-level experience in singles and tag settings, and a style that suits mid-card titles and ladder match environments.
