WWF Backlash 2000

The Rock challenged Triple H for the WWF Championship in a match surrounded by McMahon family interference. Shane McMahon was assigned as the special guest referee, giving the champion a built-in advantage. Vince McMahon and Stephanie McMahon were also at ringside to support Triple H. The match was chaotic from the start, with run-ins from Vince’s associates Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco adding to the mayhem.

The tide turned when Linda McMahon arrived with referee Earl Hebner, restoring some order to the officiating. Moments later, Stone Cold Steve Austin made his return to the WWF after months away, storming the ring and clearing out the interference.

With the playing field leveled, The Rock hit a spinebuster followed by the People’s Elbow to pin Triple H and win the WWF Championship. The crowd reaction to Austin’s return and The Rock’s title win made this one of the most memorable moments of the Attitude Era.
