The WCW United States Championship was the final WCW-branded name used for the title after the WWF purchased World Championship Wrestling in 2001. The championship continued the same lineage that began in 1975 as the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship and later became the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship.
Booker T entered the WWF Invasion period as the titleholder after WCW’s final months. The championship then changed hands on WWF programming during the WCW and ECW Alliance storyline. Chris Kanyon, Tajiri, Rhyno, Kurt Angle, and Edge were among the wrestlers connected to the title during this short period.
The title was deactivated at Survivor Series 2001 in a unification match between Edge and Test. Edge entered the match as WWF Intercontinental Champion, while Test entered as WCW United States Champion.
Edge won the match, so the Intercontinental Championship continued as the active title, and the WCW United States Championship was absorbed into it. The United States title then remained inactive until WWE revived the lineage in 2003 as the WWE United States Championship.
