Career Summary

Konnan is a Cuban-born professional wrestler, manager, commentator, and wrestling personality best known for his work in Mexico, WCW, TNA, AAA, and Lucha Underground. He became one of the most recognizable lucha libre stars of the 1990s and later became an important behind-the-scenes figure in Mexican and American wrestling.

Konnan first became a major name in Mexico, where he wrestled for CMLL and AAA. In CMLL, he became the first CMLL World Heavyweight Champion in 1991. After moving to AAA, he became one of the promotion’s top names and later held the AAA Americas Heavyweight Championship. His popularity in Mexico helped make him one of the best-known crossover stars between lucha libre and American wrestling.

In the United States, Konnan had a brief WWF run as Max Moon before becoming much better known in WCW. During his WCW career, he held the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship, WCW World Television Championship, and WCW World Tag Team Championship.

He was also part of major groups like the nWo Wolfpac and The Filthy Animals, where his promos, catchphrases, and street-style presentation made him a regular part of WCW television.

Konnan later worked for TNA, where he was part of 3Live Kru with Ron Killings and B.G. James. He also became closely tied to the Latin American Xchange, helping shape one of TNA’s most recognizable factions. In Lucha Underground, he appeared as the manager of Prince Puma and helped connect the show’s roster to modern lucha libre.

As his in-ring career slowed down, Konnan remained active as a manager, commentator, producer, creative figure, and podcast host. He has continued to work with AAA in creative and on-screen roles, and he was inducted into the AAA Hall of Fame in 2025.

His career connects several major parts of modern wrestling history, including lucha libre’s rise in the 1990s, WCW’s cruiserweight and faction-heavy years, TNA’s early identity, and AAA’s later international presence.
