The Impact Global Championship was Impact Wrestling’s primary men’s singles title from September 18, 2017, until January 10, 2018. The name was introduced as the promotion abandoned its brief Global Force Wrestling identity and returned to using Impact Wrestling.
The championship continued the lineage established with the TNA World Heavyweight Championship in 2007. There was no vacancy, tournament, or new championship created during the name change. Eli Drake remained champion after carrying the title through the GFW branding period.
Drake’s reign included defenses against Johnny Impact, Moose, and Alberto El Patrón. Chris Adonis regularly accompanied him during his run, while the title remained the central championship on Impact’s weekly television program and major events.
Austin Aries returned during the January 2018 television tapings and was immediately scheduled for a match against Drake. Aries won the championship on January 10, beginning his second reign in the lineage. The episode aired on February 1, 2018.
Following Aries’ victory, Impact removed “Global” from the title and adopted the simpler Impact World Championship name. The lineage and championship reigns continued without interruption.
