The GFW Global Championship was the name used for Impact Wrestling’s primary men’s singles title from August 17, 2017, until September 18, 2017. It represented the promotion’s brief attempt to operate under the Global Force Wrestling name.
This championship wasn’t a continuation of the original GFW Global Championship created by Jeff Jarrett’s earlier promotion. That separate title was absorbed into the Impact Wrestling World Heavyweight Championship when Alberto El Patrón defeated Lashley at Slammiversary XV on July 2, 2017. The continuing lineage remained the one established by TNA in 2007.
El Patrón was later suspended, and the combined championship was vacated. Eli Drake won a 20-man Gauntlet match for the vacant belt on August 17, 2017, becoming the new champion. With the unification already completed, the title dropped the temporary Unified GFW World Heavyweight Championship wording and became the GFW Global Championship.
Drake was the only champion under this exact name. The promotion soon moved away from the GFW identity following Jeff Jarrett’s departure. Drake’s reign continued when the championship was renamed the Impact Global Championship.
