AEW Continental Championship

The AEW Continental Championship is a men’s singles championship in All Elite Wrestling. AEW announced the title on November 18, 2023, as the prize for the first Continental Classic, a round-robin tournament with two leagues, a points system, 20-minute time limits, and rules limiting outside involvement.

Eddie Kingston became the first champion at Worlds End on December 30, 2023, when he defeated Jon Moxley in the tournament final. Because Kingston already held the ROH World Championship and NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship, his win made the Continental Championship part of the Continental Crown, also known as the American Triple Crown.

The title became a stand-alone AEW championship on March 20, 2024, when Kazuchika Okada defeated Kingston on Dynamite. Okada won only the Continental Championship, while Kingston’s ROH and NJPW STRONG titles stayed separate.

Okada’s reign helped define the title’s early identity, especially when he entered the 2024 Continental Classic as champion and retained the championship by defeating Will Ospreay in the final at Worlds End on December 28, 2024.

The championship became part of another combined recognition on July 12, 2025 at All In: Texas, when Okada defeated AEW International Champion Kenny Omega in a winner-takes-all match to become the first AEW Unified Champion.

AEW later clarified that the Continental and International title lineages were not retired, so the Continental Championship continued as its own recognized title.

That combined recognition ended at Worlds End on December 27, 2025, when Jon Moxley defeated Okada in the 2025 Continental Classic final to win the AEW Continental Championship. Moxley’s win ended Okada’s long reign and returned the title to a stand-alone presentation.

The AEW Continental Championship remains active and is still tied to the Continental Classic, making it a tournament-linked singles title with its own lineage and rules-based identity.
