The AEW Women’s World Championship is the top singles title in AEW’s women’s division. The championship was introduced in 2019, with Riho becoming the first champion on the debut episode of Dynamite on October 2, 2019, when she defeated Nyla Rose.
The title quickly became one of AEW’s main championships. Nyla Rose became the second champion in February 2020, before Hikaru Shida won the title at Double or Nothing later that year.
Shida’s first reign lasted 372 days, making it the longest reign in the championship’s history. Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. ended Shida’s reign in 2021 and held the title for 290 days, becoming one of the division’s most prominent champions during AEW’s early national expansion.
Thunder Rosa won the championship from Baker in a steel cage match on Dynamite in March 2022. Later that year, Rosa was unable to defend the title due to injury, so AEW crowned an interim champion. Toni Storm won the interim title at All Out 2022, and Jamie Hayter later defeated Storm at Full Gear.
When Rosa relinquished the championship in November 2022, Hayter became the undisputed AEW Women’s World Champion. AEW later treated Storm’s interim reign as part of the official title history, keeping the championship as one continuous lineage.
Since then, the title has continued to pass through several major names in AEW’s women’s division. Toni Storm became the first two-time champion in 2023, Hikaru Shida became the first three-time champion, and Saraya won the title at All In London. Storm later added more reigns, including a fourth title win in 2025. Mariah May, Kris Statlander, and Thekla also became part of the championship’s history as the division continued to evolve.
The AEW Women’s World Championship remains active and continues to serve as AEW’s main women’s singles championship.
