Rey Fénix

Rey Fénix is a Mexican masked high-flyer known for explosive speed, springboard offense, and sudden momentum swings that can end matches in seconds. He broke in during 2007 on the Mexican circuit as Máscara Oriental, later adopting the Fénix identity and becoming a regular in major lucha companies while taking bookings across Mexico and the United States.

Over time, that schedule put him in AAA and CMLL, along with U.S. promotions like Lucha Underground, PWG, MLW, and Impact, before he became widely known to mainstream American audiences through AEW.

In Mexico, Rey Fénix became a featured name in Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide after the company began booking him in higher-profile singles matches. His speed-heavy style fit AAA’s main event pacing, and by 201 8 he was working consistent title programs.

He went on to win the AAA Mega Championship on August 25, 2018, which positioned him as one of the company’s top singles wrestlers. He remained active in major defenses during that reign, including a four-way title match on August 10, 2019. The reign ended on October 19, 2019, at Héroes Inmortales XIII, when Kenny Omega defeated him for the championship.

Around the same time, Fénix also worked in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre, despite the long-standing rivalry between CMLL and AAA. In CMLL, he was billed as “King Phoenix” because AAA controlled the “Rey Fénix” trademark at the time. However, his in-ring style and role stayed the same.

In the United States, Fénix became widely known through his tag team with his brother Penta as the Lucha Brothers. Their style leaned on high-risk bursts, quick tags, and big-match pacing, making them a featured act wherever they worked.

In AEW, he became a core part of the tag and trios scene, winning the AEW World Tag Team Championship with Penta and later holding the AEW World Trios Championship as part of Death Triangle with Pac. He also had a notable singles moment by winning the AEW International Championship in 2023.

After leaving AEW, he signed with WWE and joined SmackDown in 2025, bringing the same fast, airborne style into a new spotlight and quickly landing on major cards, including WrestleMania and the Royal Rumble.
