The show continued the Night of Champions name as one of WWE’s championship-focused events, while also serving as a major stop on the road to SummerSlam 2026. The Undisputed WWE Championship match placed Cody Rhodes in a triple threat defense against Gunther and Sami Zayn. Rhodes entered the event as champion, but the match came after weeks of tension involving both challengers.

Gunther had been locked into the title picture with Rhodes, while Zayn became part of the issue after serving as special guest referee for a Rhodes vs. Gunther match on SmackDown.
