About This Championship

The NWA Women’s World Championship, as recognized in WWE lineage, represents the earliest portion of the title history that later became the original WWE Women’s Championship.

WWE traces this lineage back to September 18, 1956, recognizing The Fabulous Moolah as the inaugural champion. In WWE’s official history, that date marks the beginning of the championship lineage later continued as the WWF Women’s Championship in 1984 and renamed the WWE Women’s Championship in 2002.

This period covers the years when the title was recognized under the NWA name, before the World Wrestling Federation assumed control of the championship. While WWE presents this early history as part of its women’s title lineage, not every title change recognized during the NWA years is reflected in this WWE version of the title belt.

For that reason, this title belt is for the NWA-era portion of the lineage, specifically as recognized by WWE. It is separate from our standalone NWA Women’s World Championship lineage page that follows the title as an independent NWA championship.
