The NWA Mid-Atlantic Television Championship was a title used by Jim Crockett Promotions from 1974 to 1978. A tournament was held to crown the first champion, with Danny Miller defeating Ole Anderson in the final on February 27, 1974, at the WRAL television studios in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The championship was featured on Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling television and defended at live events throughout the Carolinas and Virginia. Early champions included Ivan Koloff, Paul Jones, and Ric Flair, who won the title in February 1975. Jones was stripped of the championship that December after winning the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship, leading to another tournament in which Angelo Mosca defeated Tim Woods in April 1976.
Ricky Steamboat won the championship from Flair in June 1977 before losing it to Baron von Raschke that October. During von Raschke’s reign, Jim Crockett Promotions announced a national tournament featuring television champions from other National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) territories.
Although the tournament was fictional and no matches took place, von Raschke was declared the winner in March 1978 and became the first NWA Television Champion. The Mid-Atlantic name was dropped as the championship continued under its new designation.
