Michelle McCool faced Melina in a title unification Lumberjill Match at Night of Champions 2010. Melina entered as WWE Divas Champion, while McCool represented the WWE Women’s Championship through her partnership with Layla. Layla was the officially recognized Women’s Champion, but she and McCool had been presenting themselves as co-champions as LayCool.
The match was designed to unify WWE’s two women’s championships into one title, with members of the women’s division surrounding the ring as lumberjills. The result would end the Women’s Championship lineage and leave the Divas Championship as WWE’s primary women’s title, with the winner becoming the first Unified Divas Champion.
Kane entered Night of Champions 2010 as World Heavyweight Champion, and the man responsible for the attack that had left The Undertaker incapacitated earlier that year. Kane initially claimed he was searching for the attacker before Rey Mysterio accused him of being responsible. The Undertaker returned at SummerSlam and confronted Kane, but Kane overpowered him and delivered a Tombstone Piledriver. Kane later admitted attacking his brother. Their first championship match of the rivalry was made a No Holds Barred Match, allowing them to fight without normal disqualification or count-out restrictions.
The Undertaker attacked Kane on the entrance ramp before the action reached the ring. The brothers fought across the stage and around ringside, using the barricade, ring post, and steel steps during the opening portion of the match.
Kane took control and used the World Heavyweight Championship belt as a weapon against The Undertaker’s ribs. He followed with a top-rope clothesline, leg drop, corner offense, and continued attacks around ringside. The Undertaker responded by sending Kane into the steel steps and hitting his leg drop across the ring apron.
The fight also moved into the crowd before returning to ringside and eventually the ring. Kane maintained control for another stretch, but The Undertaker began his comeback with a leaping clothesline, corner splash, Snake Eyes, a big boot, and a leg drop.
The Undertaker then hit Kane with a chokeslam and attempted to finish him with the Tombstone Piledriver. Kane reversed the move, lifted The Undertaker into position, and delivered a Tombstone of his own. Kane made the pin without outside interference and retained the championship, giving him a decisive victory over his brother before their rivalry moved into Hell in a Cell.
