About This Tournament

The 1997 WWF Intercontinental Championship tournament was held after Steve Austin was forced to vacate the title because of the neck injury he suffered at SummerSlam 1997. WWF then set up an eight-man tournament to crown a new Intercontinental Champion.

The field included Brian Pillman, Dude Love, Goldust, Owen Hart, Faarooq, Ken Shamrock, Rocky Maivia, and Ahmed Johnson, though Shamrock was later removed because of injury and Faarooq advanced in his place. Tournament matches were spread across the September 8, September 15, September 22, and September 29, 1997 episodes of Raw Is War, with the final taking place at Badd Blood: In Your House on October 5, 1997, at the Kiel Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
