Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling is an active Canadian wrestling promotion that Scott D’Amore launched in 2024 to bring back the historic Maple Leaf Wrestling brand. D’Amore had purchased the original promotion’s video library in 2012, giving the revived company access to footage from the Toronto territory and a direct link to its history.
D’Amore announced the return of the promotion on August 8, 2024, using the new Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling name. The first event, called Forged in Excellence, took place over two nights on October 19 and 20, 2024, at St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario.
D’Amore says MLP’s goal is to focus on Canadian-based, Canadian-themed wrestling that develops local talent. The promotion brings together up-and-coming Canadian wrestlers, international stars, and experienced veterans who act as mentors.
He has said he sees the promotion as a way to give Canadian and other non-American wrestlers chances that are rare in a U.S.-focused industry. This continues the tradition that produced stars like Adam Copeland, Christian Cage, Bobby Roode, and Gail Kim.
That approach shows in the roster, with Canadian talent like Josh Alexander, Gisele Shaw, Stu Grayson, Mike Bailey, El Phantasmo, Raj Dhesi, Sheldon Jean, and Rohan Raja all appearing during its recent run.
While MLP is based in Windsor, it has taken events across Canada, running shows in Toronto, Montreal, Ohsweken, and other cities. That touring reach included a return to the former Maple Leaf Gardens (now the Mattamy Athletic Centre) for the Northern Rising event on May 10, 2025.
At that event, Josh Alexander won the gauntlet match to become the first MLP Canadian Champion, and Gisele Shaw beat Kylie Rae to become the first MLP Women’s Canadian Champion. MLP later introduced the Canadian Tag Team Championship during its Global Wars Canada weekend in March 2026.
Scott D’Amore continues to run the promotion as its owner and president. MLP formed a talent-exchange agreement with Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) in February 2026, allowing wrestlers from both promotions to appear in Canada and Mexico.
It also worked with Ring of Honor (ROH) to present Global Wars Canada in Windsor on March 27, 2026, followed by an MLP event the next night. MLP expanded onto national television when MLP Mayhem premiered on TSN in Canada on July 15, 2026.
Episodes began streaming internationally through MyAEW the following day, while Fight Nation carries MLP programming in additional international markets and TrillerTV continues to distribute its major events.
The promotion currently runs periodic live events and seasonal television tapings rather than maintaining a weekly touring schedule.
