Survivor Series: WarGames returns this year on Saturday, November 29, 2025, live from Petco Park in San Diego, California. For the first time ever, WWE will bring this event to an outdoor stadium and a Major League Baseball venue, making it a historic night for fans.

Traditionally, Survivor Series was built around elimination-style tag team matches. These matches would feature teams of four or five wrestlers, with eliminations happening one by one until only the survivors remained. For several years, the event also leaned heavily into brand competition, pitting Raw against SmackDown in a series of matches to determine brand supremacy.

In 2022, WWE shifted the focus of Survivor Series to center around the WarGames match format. WarGames is fought between two teams inside a giant steel structure that surrounds two side-by-side rings. The match starts with one wrestler from each team fighting for five minutes.

After that, a new wrestler enters every three minutes, alternating between teams. The team that won the advantage (determined earlier) sends their wrestlers in first, giving them temporary numerical superiority. For example, making it 2-on-1, then 3-on-2, and so on.

Once all wrestlers have entered the cage, the match officially begins. Unlike the traditional Survivor Series elimination format, there are no eliminations in WarGames. Victory can only be achieved through pinfall or submission, with all team members remaining in the match until one team wins. Wrestlers can move freely between both rings and use the cage structure itself as a weapon. There are no disqualifications, countouts, or escapes.

Since adopting the WarGames format, Survivor Series usually includes two of these matches. One for men and one for women. These matches bring together WWE’s biggest storylines, often involving rival factions or wrestlers who have been feuding for months. The matches are known for their unpredictable chaos and dramatic finishes.

This year’s Survivor Series promises to raise the stakes even higher, with the open-air setting of Petco Park providing a unique backdrop for one of WWE’s most chaotic and physically demanding match types.
