Grayson Waller (Matthew Farrelly) is an Australian professional wrestler best known for his WWE run on NXT, SmackDown, and Raw. He grew up in Sydney and wrestled across the Australian independent scene as Matty Wahlberg, competing for Pro Wrestling Australia (PWA) and Newcastle Pro Wrestling (NPW).
He won the 2019 PWA Colosseum tournament and held regional titles, which raised his profile at home. He also drew attention as a contestant on Australian Survivor in 2019, which helped him transition to WWE in 2021.
Waller reported to WWE’s Performance Center in 2021 and debuted on 205 Live, then moved to NXT. He turned heads with fast talking promos, heavy social media use, and a hostile on screen personality. There, he feuded with Johnny Gargano and LA Knight, then targeted AJ Styles in early 2022 for a featured match that introduced him to a wider audience.
In late 2021, he wrestled inside the WarGames match as part of Team 2.0, which tied him to NXT’s new era. He soon launched The Grayson Waller Effect, a talk show segment that he used to antagonize guests and move stories forward.
In 2023, he entered the WWE Draft and was selected by SmackDown. He continued to lean into the talk show format on the main roster with high profile guests, including John Cena. He also wrestled Edge on television, which served as his in-ring introduction to SmackDown viewers. By the fall, he began teaming with Austin Theory. The duo called themselves A-Town Down Under and took aim at the tag division.
The team peaked at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia in April 2024. WWE split the Undisputed Tag Team Championship across two sets of belts in a six-team ladder match. Waller and Theory claimed the SmackDown side to become champions.
WWE soon renamed those belts the WWE Tag Team Championship on television, and the pair carried them through spring appearances that included cross brand segments with NXT. Their act relied on needling promos, opportunistic tactics, and an on screen friendship built on mutual self promotion.
Waller and Theory moved to Raw in early 2025. They also stepped into an NXT spotlight match that February when Oba Femi defended the NXT Championship against both men in a triple threat, which Femi won. In July 2025, Waller announced on Raw that Theory was injured and declared the team finished.
He shifted back to singles work and continued to feature his talk show to keep himself in the mix on Monday nights. WWE did not announce any suspension or release for either man, and Waller’s television role remained active through the summer.
Waller wrestles a quick, evasive style with a showman’s presentation. His primary finisher is the Rolling Thunder Stunner, a rope-assisted somersault into a stunner. He also uses a rolling flatliner and a sitout fireman’s slam, and he sprinkles in superkicks, jumping knees, and rope running counters to sell speed and surprise.
The Grayson Waller Effect functions as a weapon too, since he often goads opponents into brawls right after the segment ends.
Today, he continues to work as a Raw singles performer who relies on sharp microphone work, well timed interference spots, and a creative finishing sequence that keeps fans reacting to his matches.
