Career Summary

Tama Tonga is a Tongan-American second-generation wrestler who built his name as one of New Japan’s most reliable tag specialists and as a founding member of Bullet Club. Growing up as the adopted son of Haku, he went from U.S. independents in 2008 to touring Puerto Rico with WWC, then landed in New Japan Pro-Wrestling in 2010, where the “Tama Tonga” name truly took off.

In NJPW, Tama first worked as an undercard babyface, mixing athletic flying with wild, unpolished energy. His career shifted sharply in 2013 when he turned heel alongside Prince Devitt (Finn Bálor), Karl Anderson, and Bad Luck Fale to form Bullet Club, a foreigner heel group that became one of the most influential factions of the 2010s.

The next big step came in 2016, when he formed Guerrillas of Destiny (G.O.D.) with his brother Tanga Loa. G.O.D. became a cornerstone of NJPW’s heavyweight tag division, winning the IWGP Tag Team Championship seven times, holding the ROH World Tag Team Championship once, and winning the World Tag League in 2020.

Their matches against teams like Makabe & Honma, the Briscoe Brothers, War Machine, and FinJuice defined much of the modern NJPW tag scene.
In the 2020s, he stepped out more as a singles wrestler. After the Bullet Club betrayal in 2022, Tama turned babyface and aligned with NJPW’s main army, then pushed into the upper card by winning the NEVER Openweight Championship four times. Those reigns featured hard-hitting matches with EVIL, Karl Anderson, David Finlay, and Shingo Takagi, including big wins at Wrestle Kingdom 17 and 18.

After announcing at Wrestle Kingdom 18 that he was leaving NJPW to be closer to his family, his long-rumored jump to WWE became reality. He debuted on SmackDown on April 12, 2024, attacking Jimmy Uso and joining The Bloodline, later rebranded as MFT under Solo Sikoa.

In WWE he has worked as a violent enforcer, teaming with his brothers and JC Mateo, and already holds a run as WWE Tag Team Champion. His style in WWE leans on explosive strikes, cutters, and his new Cut Throat elbow finish, carrying over the dangerous edge he honed in Japan.
