Shawn Spears is a Canadian pro wrestler acclaimed for his in-ring skills, technical acumen, and the ability to reinvent his persona. He first stepped into the ring in 2002 after training with wrestlers like Cody Deaner and Eric Young, spending his early years on the independent circuit with promotions such as Border City Wrestling and World Xtreme Wrestling.
WWE signed Spears in 2006, where he worked in developmental territories like Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) and Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). He had a short run on WWE’s ECW brand under the name Gavin Spears before being released in 2009. After several years back on the independents, he returned to WWE in 2013 with a new persona, Tye Dillinger, and the crowd-pleasing “Perfect 10” gimmick. This run in NXT eventually led to a call-up to SmackDown in 2017.
In 2019, Spears left WWE and joined All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where he went back to using his real wrestling name. He quickly made waves with his “Chairman” nickname, which came from a controversial chair shot incident, and later became part of the MJF-led faction, The Pinnacle. His AEW stint lasted until late 2023, when his contract ended.
In February 2024, Spears made a surprise return to WWE’s NXT brand, attacking Ridge Holland on his first night back. Keeping his more aggressive persona, he formed the faction known as The Culling and even captured the NXT North American Championship before later losing it to Ricky Saints.
Over two decades into his career, Spears has proven he can reinvent himself and stay relevant, whether he’s playing the fan favorite “Perfect 10” or the menacing “Chairman.”
