Hollywood Hogan tried to slow the match down early and repeatedly moved outside the ring whenever Randy Savage began building momentum. After Savage finally caught him, he used punches and a double axe handle to send Hogan outside.
As the fight continued around ringside, both men used a chair and drove each other into the surrounding area. Miss Elizabeth eventually came to ringside, adding another distraction to the match.
When Savage tried to attack Hogan, Hogan repeatedly used Elizabeth’s presence to stop him. On one occasion, Hogan pulled Elizabeth between himself and Savage, giving him time to regain control.
Hogan later hit the big boot and prepared for the leg drop, but Elizabeth entered the ring and checked on Savage. The delay gave Savage enough time to move, causing Hogan to miss the leg drop.
After the original referee was knocked down, Nick Patrick entered as the replacement referee. Savage bodyslammed Hogan and followed with the flying elbow drop. Patrick counted to two before stopping the count while claiming his neck injury prevented him from continuing.
With the match still going, Savage was able to strike Hogan with a foreign object and again appeared close to winning the championship. When Savage climbed toward the top rope, Ted DiBiase interfered long enough to stop him.
The Giant then returned to ringside and caught Savage on the floor. After hitting Savage with a chokeslam, The Giant helped return him to the ring.
With Savage down, Hogan was placed on top of him, and Patrick counted the pin. Hogan retained the WCW World Heavyweight Championship after the outside interference.
