Randy Savage entered the match with his right arm taped and a brace protecting his injured right knee. After seeing the injury, Hollywood Hogan quickly began targeting the knee, while The Disciple repeatedly interfered from ringside.
When the fight moved outside the ring, Hogan attacked Savage with a chair before bringing him back inside. After returning to the ring, Hogan continued working on Savage’s knee with attacks around the ring post, his weightlifting belt, and a figure-four leglock.
Savage finally created an opening when Hogan missed the leg drop. After taking Hogan’s belt and using it against him, Savage bodyslammed Hogan and climbed to the top rope.
Savage connected with the flying elbow drop, but the damage to his knee prevented him from immediately making the cover. That delay allowed Hogan enough time to recover and go back after the injured leg.
As the match continued, Savage collided with referee Nick Patrick and left him down. With the referee unable to stop him, The Disciple entered the ring, hit Patrick with a neckbreaker, and joined Hogan in attacking Savage’s knee.
Kevin Nash then came to the ring to help Savage. When Eric Bischoff tried to stop Nash, Nash fought him off and went after Hogan.
Hogan attempted to use the championship belt during the fight but accidentally struck The Disciple instead. Nash then gave Hogan a Jackknife Powerbomb and placed Savage on top of him.
Before Patrick could recover and count the fall, Bret Hart entered the ring and struck Nash with the championship belt. Hart then moved Hogan on top of Savage and pulled Patrick into position to make the count.
Hogan pinned Savage to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, ending Savage’s reign after one day.
After the title change, Roddy Piper came to the ring and confronted Hart over what he had done. The confrontation ended with Hart punching Piper as Hogan left Nitro as champion.
