Kane used his size and strength to control long portions of the match against The Undertaker. Paul Bearer also became involved at ringside, taking advantage of opportunities to attack The Undertaker while Kane maintained control.
Kane hit an early chokeslam but pulled The Undertaker up rather than completing the pin. The fight later moved outside, where The Undertaker attempted to dive over the top rope onto Kane. Kane moved out of the way and redirected him through the Spanish announce table. Kane followed with a flying clothesline after they returned to the ring.
The Undertaker attempted a Tombstone Piledriver, but Kane reversed it and delivered his own Tombstone. The Undertaker kicked out. He recovered with a chokeslam and connected with a Tombstone, but Kane became one of the first wrestlers to kick out of the move. A second Tombstone also failed to keep Kane down.
The Undertaker followed with a flying clothesline from the top rope, then delivered a third Tombstone Piledriver. This time he held Kane down for the three-count. Kane began rising almost immediately after the pin, and the rivalry continued after the bell when Bearer attacked The Undertaker, and Kane struck his brother with a chair before delivering another Tombstone onto the chair.
