Kal Herro grew up around wrestling in Grafton, Wisconsin. His father, David Herro, promotes Great Lakes Championship Wrestling (GLCW), so Kal saw locker rooms and live shows from a young age and decided early that he wanted to get in the ring himself.
He trained through Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) under Al Snow and worked closely with veteran Jamin Olivencia, then made his first official match appearance as a teenager on December 1, 2018, teaming with Snow at House of Hardcore 51 in Waukesha and defeating Jay Bradley and Robert Strauss. That debut set his path and kept him based between Wisconsin independents and OVW’s weekly TV in Louisville.
He entered OVW television on August 4, 2020 in a match with Bradley, and over the next year became a fan favorite as “The Fanny Pack Kid,” a bright-gear babyface with a crowd-friendly approach.
In October 2021, he formed The Fanny Pack Party with Dustin Jackson and won OVW’s annual Nightmare Cup tournament, then parlayed that momentum into a Winner Takes All match on November 23, 2021 to capture the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship from Darkkloudz.
National eyes found him in September 2023 when Netflix’s Wrestlers docuseries spotlighted OVW’s roster and rising names like Herro. Inside the company, he kept climbing. On February 8, 2024, he won the newly rebranded OVW Media Championship and held it through June 29, logging defenses on house shows and TV, including a high-profile feud with Real1.
His signature “Fanny Pack Knee” became the match-ender fans expected, and he also used a top-rope crossbody in key finishes.
A major turning point came at Hard Reset on June 14, 2025, when Herro teamed with Billy Gunn in a must-win tag bout against The Revolution to keep his OVW career alive. He scored the fall with a diving crossbody, then rode that wave into the summer tournament to crown a new heavyweight champion.
On July 1, 2025, at Independence Rage, he defeated Crixus in the tournament final to win the OVW Heavyweight Championship, and he began defending the title on TV later that month against Anthony Catena.
Today, he remains an OVW headliner, presented as a homegrown, high-energy champion who leans on quick strikes, the running knee he has branded around his fanny-pack persona, and well-timed crossbodies that pop the crowd.
