Leah Van Dale, known in wrestling as Carmella, rose through WWE after joining the Performance Center and finding an early role in NXT as a loud, confident personality linked to Enzo Amore and Big Cass.
She eventually shifted into full-time in-ring work and was brought to WWE’s main roster during the 2016 brand split, where she leaned into a Staten Island “money and attitude” persona and became a regular presence on SmackDown.
Carmella’s biggest career moment came when she won the Money in the Bank contract in 2017, then cashed in on April 10, 2018, to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship, giving her a title reign that ran into the summer of 2018.
In the years that followed, she stayed active across Raw and SmackDown, mixing singles programs with character-heavy TV work, including her long on-screen partnership with R-Truth. She later added another major title to her resume when she and Zelina Vega won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship on November 22, 2021, holding the belts into 2022.
Her last officially listed match was on Raw on March 6, 2023. After giving birth in November 2023, Van Dale discussed a postpartum “drop foot” condition that prevented a return, and her WWE contract ultimately expired in February 2025.
