Hogan and Savage worked together during the opening portion of the match, but Big Boss Man and Akeem eventually slowed Hogan down and kept him from his corner. Hogan fought his way free and tagged Savage, who came in aggressively against both opponents. Slick then struck Savage from ringside with his nightstick, allowing The Twin Towers to take control.
Akeem later threw Savage through the ropes toward the floor. Savage landed on Elizabeth, knocking her down and leaving her injured. Hogan went to check on Elizabeth while Savage was pulled back into the ring, then carried her backstage for medical attention. Savage was left alone against both members of The Twin Towers while Hogan remained with Elizabeth.
Hogan eventually returned to ringside and reached for a tag, but Savage refused. After continuing to fight on his own, Savage walked over to Hogan, slapped him across the face, took the WWF World Heavyweight Championship belt, and left ringside.
The Twin Towers immediately went after Hogan. Akeem hit Hogan with a splash and covered him for a near fall, but Hogan recovered and began his comeback. He hit Akeem with the big boot and followed with the leg drop for the pin.
The match ended with Hogan and Savage officially winning, but their partnership was over. Backstage afterward, Savage accused Hogan of being jealous of his championship and wanting Elizabeth for himself. Savage struck Hogan with the title belt and continued attacking him until Brutus Beefcake and officials intervened.
