About UPW

Ultimate Pro Wrestling (UPW) was an independent wrestling promotion based in Southern California, founded in 1999 by Rick Bassman. Operating out of Santa Ana until 2007, UPW became widely recognized as a training ground and developmental pipeline for WWE. Many future stars, including John Cena, Samoa Joe, The Miz, Christopher Daniels, and Victoria, wrestled there early in their careers. The promotion often held events at venues like The Galaxy Theater and gained national attention through a Discovery Channel special that featured its wrestling school. UPW had several championship titles, such as the Heavyweight, Lightweight, Tag Team, Women’s, and Internet championships. Bassman later noted that more than 40 wrestlers from UPW went on to perform in WWE, cementing its reputation as one of the most influential independent promotions of its time.
